CASCADE, Iowa -- Mary E. Kelchen, 96, of Cascade, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, Iowa. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m.

She was born on July 18, 1913, in Temple Hill, daughter of John and Anna (Leeskamp) Moes. She received her education in the Temple Hill area schools.

She married Andrew Kelchen on Jan. 26, 1937, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade; he preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1998. The couple farmed in the rural Cascade area until retiring in 1970.

Mary was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade.

Surviving are two sons, Gary (Mary Kay) Kelchen, of Temple Hill, and Carl (Karen) Kelchen, of Cascade; five grandchildren, Jacki (Mike) Noel, of Dubuque, Bryon (Carolyn) Kelchen, of Cascade, Carla ( Tony) Tri, of Cedar Falls, Chad (Melinda) Kelchen, of Lehigh, and Jeff (Sherry) Kelchen, of Cascade; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Karen Kelchen, on Sept. 27, 1954; a sister, Helen Janssen; two brothers, Mike Moes and John V. Moes; and a brother-in-law, Art Janssen.
