Deborah J. (Humke) Appel, 52, of 1710 White St., died at 8:42 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at home.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. today, at Leonard Funeral Home, & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating.

She was born on July 19, 1955, in Newton, Iowa, daughter of Robert and Avril (Hillman) Humke.

Deb did in-home care in Dubuque and worked at various downtown businesses in Dubuque.

She had a great love for antiques and animals, and she very much enjoyed helping others.

Surviving are her daughter, Courtney Calhoun, of Ankeny, Iowa; her mother, Avril Humke; sisters, Brenda (Gary) Esser, of Sarasota, Fla., Charmaine (Dean) Zantow, of Albuquerque, N.M., Renee (Gary) Williams, of Dubuque, and Patricia (James) Powers, of Dubuque; her brothers, Robert (Donna) Humke Jr., of Dubuque, and her twin brother, Dennis Humke, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; and brother, James.

Courtney would like to thank all of her mom's friends and family who helped her these past years.
