Mrs. Peter J. (Marie M.) Seippel, 87, of 18378 Kramer Road, East Dubuque, Ill., formerly of 2155 Simpson Street, Dubuque, died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at The Finley Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Church, Dubuque, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on April 20, 1915, in Milwaukee, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Jericka) Fleischman.

Marie was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School.

She married Arthur A. Welu in 1937 in Dubuque; he died in 1954. She married Peter J. Seippel at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Dubuque in 1966; he died May 26, 1991.

Marie formerly was employed at the Northome Furniture Factory in Dubuque. She was later employed at the Telegraph Herald for many years until her retirement in 1980.

Marie was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. She was a volunteer in the Foster Grandparent Program and at the Dubuque Arboretum. She also volunteered at the resale store, Things and Things. Marie enjoyed traveling and also participated in the Friendship Force. She formerly enjoyed bowling and was a member of various bowling teams. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing bridge and bird- watching.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia A. (Dewey) Ames, of East Dubuque; four grandchildren, Aleta M. (Jim) Hanson, of Stanwood, Iowa, David A. (Kim) Ames, of West Melbourne, Fla., Beth L. (Mark) Small, of Dubuque, and Kim K. (Kevin) Kelley, of Towanda, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Susan Seippel, Peter (Kathy) Seippel and Paul Seippel; and by step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Ulland, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Ethel Fleischman, of Aurora, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Bruun; a brother, Thomas Fleischman; and a niece, Carole (Ulland) Grimmett.

Memorials may be given to the Dubuque Humane Society, 175 Menard Court, Dubuque, Iowa 52003, and to the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, 3125 W. 32nd Street, Dubuque, Iowa 52001.
