Ethel J. Hess, 97, of Maquoketa, Iowa and formerly of Farley, Iowa, died Friday, October 3, 2014 at 11:30 p.m. at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Ethel may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 4:00p.m.
Services for Ethel will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa with Rev. John Haugen Presiding. Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Farley, Iowa.

Ethel was born May 23, 1917 in Dyersville, Iowa, daughter of Joseph C. and Emma C. (Segbers) Luensmann. She graduated St. Joseph’s High School in 1935. On October 1, 1941 she was united in marriage to Cyril J. Hess at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, he preceded her in death on February 19, 1990. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish. Ethel enjoyed playing Euchre, Bridge and completing crossword puzzles, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Jack) Willey of Maquoketa, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jason (Lisa) Willey, Eric (Carrie) Willey, Keesha (Matthew) Frahm; nine great grandchildren, Spencer and Garrett Willey, Kira, Connor, Alex, and Owen Willey, Ashlyn, Addison, and Sophia Frahm, a brother-in-law, Dr. John Hess of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Earl Luensmann, and James L. Luensmann; four sisters-in-law, Irene Knopp, Bette J. Hess, Darlene Hess, and Maxine Luensmann; two brother-in-law, Oliver Knopp and James Hess; five nephews, James, Steve, Donald, Robert and Ronald Luensmann, a niece, Jane March. A Memorial Fund has been established in memory of Ethel J. Hess.
