Barney Jurgens, 72, long time resident of Delaware county, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leo Tobin, Worthington, Friday evening, May 3. Mr. Jurgens suffered a stroke eight months ago and had been in ill health since. He had been at the home of his daughter for three days when death overtook him.

Mr. Jurgens was born in Oldenberg, Germany, April 9, 1874. He came to the United States in 1881 at the age of seven years, settling in Delaware county. He received his education at St. Paul's school Worthington.

He was married to Anna Otting in 1904. To this union were born three daughters and one son. They farmed on the home place five miles east of Hopkinton. Mrs. Jurgens passed away in March 1932.

Mr. Jurgens married Mrs. Elizabeth (Jasper) Dempsey in August 1942. They made their home in Hopkinton.

Surviving are his wife, his daughters, Mrs. Florence Heims, Monticello; Mrs. Joseph (Minnie) Crowley, Monticello; Mrs. Leo (Marie) Tobin, Worthington, and one son, William, Hopkinton.

Two brothers, Peter and John Jurgens, Carroll, Iowa also survive, and four sisters, Mrs. Emma McDonough and Mrs. Bill Finnegan, Carroll, and Mrs. John Tobin, Worthington, and Mrs. Frank Tobin, Farley. Also surviving are seven grandchildren. Proceeding him in death were fours sisters, Mrs. Minnie Melchert, Hopkinton; Mrs. Anna Kremer, Dyersville; Mrs. J.P. Kirchen, Anamosa, and Mrs. Clara Donner, Carroll.

Funeral services were held from St. Paul's church, Worthington at 9:30 a. m. Monday. A solemn requiem mass was sung for the repose of his soul by Rev. Father Schilmoeller, assisted by the Rev. Father Schemmel as Deacon and Rev. Father Kurt as subdeacon.

Interment was made in St. Paul's cemetery. Pallbearers were J. Lighthart, Laurence Klaren, George Gadient, N. Wilgenbusch, Paul White and J. P. Grieff.
