Mary Jane Maiers, 88, of 812 Eleventh Street S.E., Dyersville, Iowa, died Monday, November 4, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Mary Jane may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 4:00 p.m.
Services for Mary Jane will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville, Iowa, with Rev. Noah Diehm Presiding. Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa.
Mary Jane was born July 16, 1925 in Dyersville, Iowa, daughter of Henry and Mary (Bagge) Schnieders. She attended the rural country schools in the Dyersville area.
She was united in marriage to Elmer P. Maiers on October 28, 1944 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Dyersville, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2005.
Mary Jane was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and Chicago CUBS fan. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville, a member of Friends of the Library, and the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary in Dyersville. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her Son, Marvin (Vicki) Maiers of Dyersville, IA; a Son-in-law, Don Offermann of Dubuque, IA; three granddaughters, Ann (Boyd Brown) Offermann, Mary Kay Offermann and Kristine (Tim) Petsche; Seven great grandchildren, Oliver, Elliot, Amelia, Hannah, Mollie, Josh and Gabrielle.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Hazel Ann Offermann on September 5, 1998 and Mary Barbara Maiers in infancy; three brothers, Art, Arnie and John; and one sister, Viola Westermeier.
Memorials for Mary Jane may be given to the James Kennedy Public Library in Dyersville, or to Camp Courageous in Monticello, Iowa.
