John McDonnell Sloan died at six o'clock Sunday morning at the residence, 1787 Clay Street, aged seventy years. He was born in Bedford, Bedford County, Pa., Feb 17, 1838, and came to Colesburg, Delaware County, Iowa, in 1855. he resided here for fourteen years and in 1873 was united in marriage to Mary Kelly of Bankston. In 1884 he removed to Dyersville and in 1902 to Dubuque.

He is survived by nine children, his wife having passed away two years ago. The children who live to mourn his loss are Mrs. Earl Esty of Chicago, Mrs. Jas. Kierner of Bankston, Mrs. John Stewart, Mrs. Ernest Puls, Jacob Sloan, Misses Anna and Ella, Will and George of this city; also his sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Caton, of Waukon, Mrs. Hannah Griswold of Mitchell, S. Dakota, and a brother, Bart Sloan of Greeley, Iowa.
