Dubuque Democratic Herald – Dec. 3, 1864

A SPLENDID MONUMENT – Messrs. Oliver & Cragin have just finished a beautiful monument to mark the spot where repose the remains of the late Lawrence Molony. It is of Vermont marble, highly polished and octagonal in form, nine feet high, with a broken column, on the top of which hangs a wreath beautifully wrought. Near the base are the words “L. Molony, died Aug. 10, 1864, aged 45 years,” and on the reverse side, carved in base relief, a family group weeping at his grave, over which is a wreath of oak leaves. It is a tasty piece of work, showing skill in its execution, and of a design that could not have been better adapted to stand for ages over the resting place of our lamented fellow citizen. It can be seen for a few days at the corner of Iowa and Ninth Streets, after which it will be erected over his grave. The deceased died on the day of the month on which he was born, making his age exactly forty-five years.
