Dr. Richard V. McKay, 84, of 343 Idlebrook Court, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Stonehill Care Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the church, where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, l640 Main St., is in charge of arrangements

He was born on March 22, 1918, in Harrisburg, Pa., son of Richard V. and Edith (McFadden) McKay.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1935, the University of Notre Dame in 1939 and received his medical degree at the University of Chicago in 1943.

He completed his Internship at the University of Cincinnati 1943-1945 and completed his residences in internal medicine at Cincinnati General Hospital. He received a Fellowship at the University of Rochester, New York, for psychosomatic medicine in 1947. He started practice as a physician in 1948 with Medical Associates of Dubuque retiring in 1986.

He married Betty Ryan, April 24, 1948 in Rochester, New York.

He was a Captain in the Army Medical Corps in 1945 and 1946. He was a member of St. Columbkille's Parish, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and was involved with the boards of Stonehill Care Center, United Way of Dubuque and Visiting Nurse Association.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; sons, Richard McKay, of Dubuque, and Charles (Mary) McKay, of Chandler, Ariz.; daughters, Mrs. Katharine (James) Paulsen, of Victoria, Minn., and Mrs. Elizabeth (Fred) Melloy, of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jenny and Ryan (Lea) Paulsen, Joel, Andrew and Ross McKay, Mackenzie, Theresa and Peter Melloy and Lauren McKay; a brother, John (Jean) McKay, of Marshalltown, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Harriet McKay, of Dubuque, and Joni McKay, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dr. James and Thomas McKay.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Columbkille's Parish, Boys and Girls Club of Dubuque and Stonehill Care Center.
