Death of Mathias Schroeder

Another good man is gone from our mists. After a lingering illness of two years Mathias Schroeder, the well-known merchant of Concord Township, died a little after noon yesterday. Although his death was not unexpected still the notice of his death has cast a cloud over his numerous friends in this community. Matt Schroeder was indeed one of nature’s noblemen, a man who need but be known to be respected. He was born in Konsdorf, Luxemburg in 1833. At the age of 20 he came to Dubuque where he resided about 10 years, when he started his present business in Concord Township.

He was at one time a member of the board of supervisors, and ever since have been tendered public position, but always refused.

He was one of the first members of the Pins Society of this city, and remained a member until his death. A wife and eight children mourn his loss.

The funeral will place at Holy Cross at 10 a.m. Monday.
