WILLIAM CUMPTON DEAD

OLD VETERAN DIED FROM EFFECTS OF A PARALYTIC STROKE

William A. Cumpton died at his home, 37 West Eighth street, at 6:20 o'clock Sunday morning. Ten days ago he sustained a stroke of paralysis, but later he partially recovered. Last Tuesday he was stricken again, and had remained unconscious up to the time of his death.

Deceased was born in East Tennessee, May 6, 1832, and came to Dubuque about forty-five years ago. This city has since been his continuous residence. He was widely known and held in high esteem for his sterling character and honorable. up-right life.

He is survived by his aged wife and four children, one son and three daughters, James Campton and Mrs. Thomas Young, Mrs. John Williams and Miss Anna Campton, all of Dubuque. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the family residence to Linwood, and will be under the auspices of the G. A. R., the deceased having been a member of Co. 0, Twenty-first Iowa. regiment.
