DEATH OF MR. SHORT
~
The death of Mr. Short takes away another of the earlier settlers of Dubuque. Twenty-three years ago he came to this city and followed mining, working 21 years of that time alone on the bluff back of Seeger’s Brewery. Impaired health and old age compelled him to abandon labor some 20 months ago. For six months he has been confined to bed. Death came to his relief last Saturday and he now calmly sleeps the sleep that knows no walking. Mr. Short was a native of Kilkenny, Ireland, and came direct to this city from the motherland. His prosperity numbers 8 children, all having reached the age of maturity. His age was about 75 years. This morning at 9 o’clock the cold form will be conveyed by loving hands from his late residence in West Dubuque, to the city of the dead on the bluff back of the Cathedral. Peace to the ashes.
