Death of Michael McNamara – Once more the sickle of time has been thrust into the ranks of our aged friends and another man goes home. This time it fell to the – of Michael McNamara, a gentlemen who had been known to former years of a man of inconsiderable influence to the community circle of Dubuque. His strict integrity and worthiness of head and heart had won for him the best honors which a man could receive at the hands of his fellow citizens. He was elected as the city representative in the city council from the first ward in nine different seasons; first in 1845 and last in 1868.

Mr. McNamara was a native of County Clare, Ireland. He was born on 1801. He had been a resident of the United Sates nearly 40 years. After leaving the old country he first settled in Troy, N.Y., but soon entered the service of the government as an engineer, which capacity he filled for five or six years.

He came to Dubuque in 18?? (part of article is blurred) and commenced business as dry goods and grocery merchant.

The deceased was an upright, conscientious member of the Catholic Church and received the solemn funeral rites peculiar to that church and was buried at Key West Tuesday morning.

He leaves a wife and two daughters to mourn his loss.
