Mrs. Elizabeth Scheckel, 79, of 2294, Bennett Street, died expectantly at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the family residence.

The body is at the Didesch Funeral Home where friends may call and from where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday to St. Mary’s Church. Mrs. Scheckel was a member of the Nativity Parish but due to Forty Hours observance there, the funeral mass will be at St. Mary’s instead. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Scheckel was born Dec. 10, 1869 in Dubuque, the daughter of the late Felix and Sophia Oswald. She was married to Nicholas Scheckel, who preceded her.

Surviving are a son, Eugene F. Scheckel, Dubuque; three grandsons, LeRoy and Louis Utzig, and Allen Scheckel, all of Dubuque; six granddaughters, Mrs. Walter (Lillian) Hird, and Mrs. Walter (Margaret) Sporris, both of Dubuque, Mrs. Urban (Mary) Weigel, of Shullsburg, Wis., and Alice, Gladys and Anna Mae Scheckel, all of Dubuque; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Utzig, four brothers and two children in infancy.
