BERNARD, Iowa - Michael Daniel McCarthy, 66, of San Diego, formerly of Bernard, went home to the Lord Sunday, April 15, 2007, in San Diego.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Melleray, rural Peosta, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1941, in Peosta, son of Daniel and Myrtle (Callahan) McCarthy.

Mike owned his own trucking company in Bernard for several years and then went into real estate in Dubuque, where he owned his own offices (Mike McCarthy Realty). He later moved to Las Vegas and owned his own mortgage lending business until he recently moved to San Diego.

Surviving are his children, Patti (Lynn Shapiro) McCarthy, of Encinitas, Calif., Dennis McCarthy, of Austin, Texas, Brian (Anita) McCarthy, of Little Rock, Calif., Shawn McCarthy, of Los Angeles, and Erin (James) Anderson, of San Diego; his grandchildren, Jake, Adam and Alexa Shapiro, Jonathan Nikki, Dakota and Christy McCarthy, Matt McCarthy and Jack and Kelly Anderson; his ex-wife, Carol (Hayes) Bivens, of Canyon Lake, Calif.; his brother, Joe (Bev) McCarthy, of Visalia, Calif; eight sisters, Marlene (Ron) Oglesby, of Bernard, Ruth (Lyle) Moore, of Peosta, Yvonne (Pat) Wolbers, of Bernard, Twyla (Frank) Oswald, of Byron, Minn., Harriet (Paul) Sullivan, of Peosta, Marilyn (Jim) Redenbaugh, of De Soto, Wis., and Margie (Dan) McDonnell and Eileen (Rene) Comeaux, of Hana, Maui, Hawaii; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter; and a daughter-in-law, Debi McCarthy.
