Andrew James Grant, 47, died from complications of cancer at the home of his parents on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with the Rev. Michael Podhajsky officiating. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Andrew was born on March 30, 1967, in Dubuque, son of John T. (Jack) and Karen (Baumhover) Grant.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1985 and attended Iowa State University and Kirkwood Community College.

Andy entered the Army Reserves while still attending high school. Later, he was a member of the Iowa National Guard.

He married Lori Courtney in 1993.

Andy held many and varied jobs. He loved to cook, play cards and ride his bike. He readily volunteered his time to help anyone in need of a handyman, a hearty meal or a big belly laugh. Andy was 'Mr. Mom' to his children; loved and was proud of them and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Selena Courtney, of Dyersville, Iowa, Austin (Heather Tomkins) Grant, and Sierra Grant, both of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Hayden, Lillyan, Izech, Kaydence and Ellie Auna; his parents, Jack and Karen Grant, of Peosta, Iowa; siblings, Angie (Tim Bickett) Moore, of Dubuque and Alan Grant, of Peosta; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Andy was preceded in death by an infant son, Alexander James Grant, in 1994; his paternal grandparents, John T. and Charlotte (Gerstkamp) Grant; and his maternal grandparents, Wesley G. and Betty (Roeber) Baumhover.

The family thanks the staff of the Wendt Center and Hospice of Dubuque for their kindness.
