ASBURY, Iowa - Mrs. Delbert E. (Lavon M.) Wagner, 81, 2677 Hales Mill Road, Asbury, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 1998, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in the Asbury Cemetery.

Mrs. Wagner owned and operated the Wagner Nursery for 52 years with her husband prior to his death.

She was born on May 3, 1916, in Dubuque, daughter of George and Mary (Volrath) Meyer. She married Delbert E. "Del" Wagner on Sept. 19, 1936, in Dubuque; he died on June 15, 1987.

She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church; the Masonic Temple; Order of the Eastern Star Julien Chapter 125; the Oxus Caldron, where she served as past mighty chosen one in 1959; and the Jepthah Shrine and Coterie. She also was a past president and secretary of the Asbury Women's Society of Christian Service for many years. She also was a member and past treasurer of the former Asbury Iowa United Methodist Church, and a member of the Asbury Senior Citizens, the 62 Plus Club, and the cousins card club.

The loves of her life were her husband, children, grandchildren and the family business, The Wagner Nursery. She also enjoyed playing cards, dining out and working with crafts in her spare time.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy (Larry) Zimmer, of Asbury; two sons, Ronald D. (Kaye) Wagner, of Asbury, and Edward G. (Peggy) Wagner, of Dubuque; ten grandchildren, Rick Wagner, Doug Wagner, Deborah (Wagner) Barnett, Dawn (Wagner) Stewart, Ron Wagner Jr., Chris (Zimmer) Horchak, Julie (Zimmer) Werner, Jenny (Wagner) McDermott, Marcia (Wagner) Mills and Mike Wagner; two step-grandchildren, Tony Kaune and Troy Kaune; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, George (Betty) Meyer, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Delores Schuller and Jeanette Rettenmaier; and a brother, Edward Meyer.

The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church.
