Russ Hall, 82, River Forester, president of OakParkRiverForest school board Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 10:00 PM

G. Russell Hall, 82, of Flossmoor, formerly of River Forest, died on March 17, 2011. A graduate of Fenwick High School, class of 1946, and Marquette University, class of 1951, he was an Army veteran who served in the Korean War.

After a career spanning 43 years with Illinois Bell Telephone Company and Ameritech Corporation, Mr. Hall retired as vice president of Ameritech Publishing in 1990. A longtime resident of River Forest, he was past president of the River Forest Little League, a member of the River Forest Safety Commission, a member of the River Forest Civil Defense Committee, and former president of the Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education. He was also a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and the Forest Park Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.

For the past 35 years, Mr. Hall was involved in, and also served a number of years as, president of the Infant Jesus of Prague Prayer group in Flossmoor. He spent his retirement years actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, and as an advocate for physically challenged accessibility in the Flossmoor community, the city of Chicago, and Sarasota, Fla. He participated for many years in Senior Olympics events throughout the United States, winning numerous medals for his athletic achievements. He was an avid golfer.

Russ Hall was the husband of Elizabeth "Bettyann" (nee Diercks) for over 58 years; the father of Cathy (Joel) Kielborn, Mary (John) Hertel, Marty (Diane) Hall M.D., and Liz (Bear) Roalsen; the grandfather of Rachel, Michael (Aimee), Nick, Johnny, Theresa, Kelly, Jennifer and Samantha; the great-grandfather of Drake and Alena; the brother of Edward (Hap) Hall and the late Richard Hall; and the son of the late George Hall and Beatrice Hall of River Forest.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Russ Hall Foundation, established for accessibility for the handicapped at Infant Jesus of Prague Church, c/o Hertel, 3551 W. 198th St., Flossmoor, IL 60422
