CASCADE, Iowa - Milton S. Bertling, 81, of 107 E. Ninth St., Monticello, formerly of Cascade, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Jones County Regional Hospital, Anamosa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, is in charge of arrangements.

Milton was born on Jan. 17, 1931, in Cascade, son of William and Cora (Johnson) Bertling. He received his education in the Cascade area schools.

He married Doloris Mae Rieniets on May 1, 1981.

Milton was Mr. Fix-it.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved feeding his birds and helping Doloris in the garden and with woodworking projects. He was a lifetime hunter and fisherman. He loved his whole family and he was Dad to all of them.

Surviving are his wife, Doloris Bertling, of Monticello; six children, Ted (Suki) Lockwood, of Lorton, Va., William (Theresa) Lockwood, of Waukesha, Wis., Nancy (Anthony) Lockwood, of Henderson, Nev., Cheri Tholen, of Monticello, Allen (Kim) Tholen, of Marshville, N.C., and Tami Fisher, of Warren, Mich.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rosie Kean, of Roselle, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Miller; and six brothers, Ed, Ralph, Clarence, John "Bill," Herbert and Robert Bertling.

A Milton S. Bertling Memorial Fund has been established.
