John A. Schmitt 1835-1900

John A. Schmitt brother to Mary Anna Schmitt (wife of Peter Clemens) was born in 1835 in Bann, Bavaria Germany and died in Templeton, Iowa in 1900 at the age of 65.

He and his brother Peter Adam accompanied their sister Mary Anna along with Peter Clemens on the ship Portland to America in May 1859.

Eventually John married Theresa Nutt and two son and two daughter were born to this union. One son, Peter Schmitt, died at an early age, 24 years. The other son, Francis Savier Schmitt (later changed to Smith) married Eva Marie Waitman and had eight children. Daughter Caroline (Carrie) married William Henry Trube and had nine children. Another daughter Theresa married Henry Morman and had six chiuldren.
