John Ryan, 86, a life long resident of Dubuque county, died at the home of his son, William, in Vernon township near Peosta Saturday morning at 3:30 o'clock. Mr. Ryan had been in poor health for seven years.

The funeral will be held Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock from the home to Holy Family Church at the Monastery where a mass of requiem will be read at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in the Monastery Cemetery.

Mr. Ryan was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ryan, natives of Ireland and pioneers of Vernon Township. He was born on the Ryan farm in that township and lived all of his life there. He was a life long member of the Catholic faith and an attendant at the Holy Family Church at the Monastery.

Surviving are his daughters; Mrs. William C. (Elizabeth) Brown, and Mrs. George (Mary) Duschen; and his sons, Henry and William, all of Peosta. His wife, the former Catherine Chapman, died 13 years ago.
