A Pontifical high mass of requiem for the Rev. Joseph Phillip Quirin, retired pastor of St. Mark’s Church, Edgewood, Ia. was celebrated Saturday morning in St. Raphael’s Cathedral by the Most Edward A. Fitzgerald, auxiliary bishop of Dubuque.

Presiding at the throne was the Most Rev. Henry P. Rohlman, Archbishop of Dubuque, who gave the final absolution.
Priests from throughout the archdiocese attended the services as did delegations of nuns and delegations from cities in which Father Quirin had been pastor. They included Edgewood, Britt, and Fillmore.

Burial was in the family lot in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Centralia. The funeral was held from the Hoffmann Mortuary.

Assistant priest to Bishop Fitzgerald was the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John C. Wienecke. Other officers were the Very Rev. James E. Slowey, deacon; the Rev. Justin Driscoll, subdeacon; the Rev. Joseph Griffin, crossbearer; the Very Rev. Msgr. Leo A. Jaeger, master of ceremonies; the Rev. Frederick Heles, second master of ceremonies; the Rev. Francis Cassidy and the Rev. Harold Ginter, acolytes; Joseph Sisson, thurifer; Thomas Greenier, bregia; and Noel and Russell Wilson, servers.

Sermons by Rev. Richards

The Rev. Joseph Richards preached the sermon.
Archbishop Rohlman was assisted by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. M. J. Kerper, and the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. V. Casey.

In the sanctuary were the Rt. Rev. Msgr. W. J. Thiltgen, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. J. Lenihan, of Cedar Rapids; the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph E. Linkenmeyer, of Bellevue; the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Martin, of Fillmore; the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Sylvester D. Luhy, president of Loras College; the very Rev. Timothy Gannon, of Loras Academy; the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Raymond Duggan, of Loras College.

Clergy officiating at the cemetery were Msgr. Wienecke, Msgr. Martin, and Rev. J. J. Breitbach.

Pallbearers were William Tiedemann, Robert Wright, Hugh Kelly, John Kissling, Robert Klaas, and Robert Smith, all clerics at Loras College.

The Gregorian requiem chant was sung by the Loras College Choir under the direction of the Rev. Ernest Ament. The Rev. Albert Carman was organist.
