Joseph P. Meyer, 73, of 1479 Jackson Street, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday morning at 6:45 o’clock. The body is at the Didesch Funeral Home from where the funeral will be held to St. Mary’s Church Saturday morning at an hour to be announced later. Burial will be in St. John’s Baptist Cemetery at Centralia.

Mr. Meyer was born at Centralia on Feb. 8, 1870 and had been a life long resident of this community. He was employed for many years as a woodworker at the Carr, Adam and Collier Company. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Christina Meyer; five daughters, Mrs. Earl (Marcella) Hoffman, Mrs. Walter (Irene) Walker, of Dubuque; Mrs. Lavine Meiter, Houston, Texas; Mrs. Vern (Violet) Cook, and Miss Marie Meyer, Davenport, Ia.; five sons, Joseph A. Meyer, Dubuque; William Meyer, Davenport; Private Stanley Meyer, of the U. S. Army Air Force, Trenton, N.J.; Louis B. Meyer, G. M. Second Class , U. S. Navy, New York City; and Private Robert E. Meyer, of the U.S. Army Air Force, Buckley Field, Denver, Colo.; three brother, Val Meyer, Wells, Minn.; John Meyer, Waterloo; Nick Meyer of Indiana; two sister, Mrs. A. A. (Gertrude) Helling, Dubuque; Mrs. John (Theresa) Ertl, Waterloo; also grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
