Mrs. Thomas McCoy died at her home two and a half miles northeast of Farley on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1899, of La Grippe. Deceased was 72 years of age.

She was born in County Mayo, Ireland, where she lived until she was married. In 1847 she with her husband came to America, and landed in Quebec, Canada. From there they moved to Pittsburg, Penn., and remained several years. Their next move was to Dubuque County in 1851 and have made this county their home ever since.

She is survived by her husband, and nine children, four sons and five daughters, of whom they are: Frank of Dubuque, Patrick, John and Thomas, all at home, Mrs. Richardson of Nashua, Ia., Mrs. J. D. O’Connell, and Mrs. Joseph Cunningham of Farley, and Misi, Katie and Maggie at home.

She was a woman who had many friends and her demise will bring sorrow to all those who have known her all these years.
The burial was in St. Joseph’s cemetery on Thursday.
