John Litscher passed away at his residence, 382 Twenty-First Street, Saturday morning at 6:40 o’clock after several weeks’ illness.

He was born in Switzerland, October 21, 1838, coming to this country with his parents when eleven years old. The family located in Dubuque County where they farmed for many years. He was employed as a baggageman for the Illinois Central and C. M. and St. P. railroads and was also a policeman for seventeen years.

He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the Hyde Clark Post, G. A. R., and also of Company F., Twelfth Iowa Infantry, and participated in the Battle of Gettysburg. He was a man of distinctive character and the news of his demise will be sadly received by all those who knew him.

Besides his wife he is survived by five children, Mrs. Henry Adix, of Sumner, Ia., Mrs. Albert Haberbush, of Savanna, Ill., Ida, John and Louise of Dubuque; one brother, Leonard of Fountain City, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ed Lagen, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
