John M. Hazer, 70, 2829 Jackson Street, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the residence after an illness of eight months. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hoffmann Mortuary from where services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in Holy Ghost Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Hazer was born Dec. 19, 1884, at Storm Lake, Ia., son of Henry and Margaret Kieffer Hazer. When a boy his family moved to Jackson County where he resided until 17 years old when he came to Dubuque. He was employed for 11 years at the Dubuque Packing Co.

On April 9, 1907, he married Margaret Mootz at Holy Rosary Church, LaMotte, Ia.

He was a member of the Holy Ghost Parish and the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workers Union No. 150.

Surviving are his wife and daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Loretta) Davis, Hawkeye, Ia., and Mrs. Dorrance (Viola) Hames, Dubuque; a son, Clarence Hazer, Otter Creek, Ia.; five grandchildren: five sisters, Mrs. John Ehlinger, LaMotte, Ia., Mrs. Millie Clauson, Emmetsburg, Ia., Mrs. Eleanor Bechen, Dubuque, Mrs. Louis Krier, Bellevue, Ia., and Mrs. Raymond Melloy, Albuquerque, N.M.; and a brother, Elmer Hazer, Otter creek, Ia.

He was preceded by his parents, two brothers, Matt and William and a granddaughter.
