John A. “Jay” Gruetzmacher, 89, of 94 Princeton Place, died at 5:20 p. m. Friday, Oct. 17, 1986 at Finley Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Church with burial in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum of Mount Calvary Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 1–3 p.m. Saturday at the Egelhof-Casper-Strueber Funeral Home, 1145 Locust Street, where the wake service will be said at 3 p.m.

Mr. Gruetzmacher, who was born in Dubuque was a letter carrier for 39 years before he retired in 1961. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, American Legion, St. Joseph’s Church, National Association of Retired Government Employees and World War I Veteran Association. He was a Marine veteran of World War I.

Surviving are his wife, the former Florence A. Faulhaber; two sons, Virgil of Bettendorf, Ia., and John L. of Janesville, Wis. and 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A John A. Gruetzmacher Memorial Fund has been established.
