Funeral Rites at Clinton
Sunday Afternoon
~
The body of Paul Griner, 36, former Dubuquer who committed suicide at Clinton Thursday night, will arrive in Dubuque this afternoon between 3:30 and 4:00 for burial in Linwood Cemetery. Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 12:30 o’clock at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Griner, in Clinton, and the body will be taken directly to the cemetery here from the Griner home. The Rev. Hugh D. Atchison, pastor of St. Luke’s Methodist Episcopal Church, will officiate at burial service.

The body of Mr. Griner was found in the offices of the Equitable Life Insurance Company of Iowa in Clinton Friday morning. A note found near the body was addressed to his parents and expressed his regret at bringing them sorrow through his suicide. He had shot himself through the heart with a 32-caliber revolver. Officials said he had been in bad health from the effects of accidentally being overcome with carbon monoxide gas some months ago.

Mr. Griner was born July 20, 1898 at Middlebury, Ind. The family lived at Chicago and Fulton, Ill., and Mason City, Ia. before they came to Dubuque, where Mr. Griner’s father opened a retail clothing store for men. The younger Griner became associated with his father on the Dubuque store. With the retirement of his father from the retail clothing business, the younger Griner continued his connection with the store which was reorganized as the Griner-Jones Company.

Some years ago the younger Griner disposed of his interest in the Dubuque store and went to Davenport to be associated with his father in a general agency for the Equitable Life Insurance Company of Iowa. The family resided at Davenport until 1931 when they moved to Clinton. Since then the younger Griner had spent considerable of his time in Dubuque, this city being included in the general agency headed by his father.

Surviving with his parents are his sisters, Mrs. Floyd (Leota) Porter, Clinton, and Mrs. Franz W. Pauline) Wood. Des Moines. An older brother, Lemar, died as the result of an accident while serving with the army during the World War at a Texas training Camp.
