EPWORTH, Iowa - Elizabeth C. "Bette" McDermott, 86, 402 W. Main St., Epworth, died at 2:05 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Epworth, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. McDermott owned and operated the former Epworth Cafe from 1937 to 1945, after which time she operated the Epworth Locker, with her husband and brother.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1912, in Bankston, daughter of Fred and Johanna (Stritzel) Mausser. She married Daniel A. McDermott on Nov. 17, 1940, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Epworth.

She received her education at the former St. Clement's School, in Bankston. She loved her flower gardening, doing crafts, and her nieces and nephews.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, in Epworth, and of its altar and rosary society.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel McDermott, of Epworth; a sister, Rita (Noel) Callahan, of Epworth; two brothers, Bernard (Mary Agnes) Mausser, of Farley, and Clem (Jean) Mausser, of Epworth; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Emma; and three brothers, Joe, Henry and William.

A Elizabeth C. McDermott Memorial Fund has been established.
