EPWORTH, Iowa - Thomas J. Hamilton, 77, of 102 First St. SW, Epworth, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center- Dubuque.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Epworth, with the Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Epworth, where there will be a flag presentation by the Epworth John White American Legion Post 650. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hamilton was Postmaster in Epworth from 1961 until his retirement in 1985.

He was born on March 4, 1928, in Dubuque, son of George and Viola Mary (Bahl) Hamilton. He graduated from Epworth High School. He also attended Loras College in Dubuque.

Tom was an Army veteran, having served in the First Cavalry Division during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Epworth, and served on the Parish Council. He also was a member of the Epworth John White American Legion Post 650, the New Vienna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736, the Serra Club and the Epworth Historical Society.

Surviving are a brother, John R. "Dick" (Joan) Hamilton, of Epworth; a sister, Susan (Jerry) Beaver, of Ottumwa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Alice Hamilton.

Memorials may be given to the Epworth Historical Society.
