FARLEY, Iowa - Shirley A. (Tobin) Rave, 80, of Farley, Iowa, was called to heaven on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at 5:55 a.m., surrounded by her children, grandchildren and sisters, at her son Rick's home in Earlville, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Shirley may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m.

Services for Shirley will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa, with Rev. John Haugen officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley, Iowa.

She was born December 29, 1934, in Worthington, Iowa, daughter of Alfred and Alma (Klein) Tobin. On May 9, 1955, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Rave at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Worthington, IA. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2010. Together they raised 14 children and provided family time to many others that accepted their love.

She spent many years caring for others through Visiting Nurses, Julien Care Facility and in home care.

She adored her family, and loved spending time with them playing cards, finding treasures at Goodwill or the Amish, donating money to the casinos, and traveling anywhere that someone was going. She will be sadly missed by her family, sisters and her best friend, Marg Frank, and all her bonus children.

Surviving are twelve children, Gilbert Rave Jr., of Dubuque, Connie (Jeff) Gioimo, of Dyersville, Rick (Kathy) Rave, of Earlville, Sherry (Tom) Streif and Loras Rave, both of Independence, Polly (Keith) Goerdt, of Farley, Peggy Jellison, of Clarence, Karla (Steve) Garrett, of Cascade, Heidi (Steve) MacDonald, of Epworth, Roxanne (John) Gartner, of Peosta, Daniel Rave, of Farley, and Jodi Delaney (& friend, Jared Lind), of Strawberry Point; a daughter-in law, Karen Rave, of Farley; 37 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene (Carey) Ahlers, of Worthington, and Marjorie Althoff, of Manchester.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Mark Rave, on Sept. 13, 1992, and Gary J. Rave, on Jan. 8, 1997; a son-in-law, Lee Jellison, and a family friend, Wes Spiker; a granddaughter, Autumn Garrett; a great grandson, William Rave; two sisters, Gladys (Robert) Jaeger and Delrose (Ernie) Ostwinkle; a brother, Alfred Jr. (Anna Mae) Tobin; a brother-in-law, Clarence Althoff.
