Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - Sunday, August 6, 2000

Janet L. Auterman, 66, of 2203 St. John Drive, died at 3:05 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, after a brief illness at Ennoble Manor Care Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Farley, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Auterman was employed at Farley State Bank, Stoughton Drug Store and Grandview Drug for many years. She also was a bookkeeper and secretary at Paul's Pump Service since 1985, which she and her husband owned.

She was born on April 17, 1934, in Dallas Center, Iowa, daughter of Clell and Pearl (Allen) Stoughton. She married Eugene Thomas in 1966; he died in 1969. She later married Paul Auterman on June 3, 1972.

She graduated from St. Joseph's High School, Farley, in 1952. Her most prized possessions were her family and friends. She lived her faith in God all day, every day. Although her physical health limited her mobility, her bubbly personality, her smile and her laugh raised the spirits of anyone near her. Anyone who knew her loved her. Her last words were, "I love you."

Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Paul Auterman, of Dubuque; a brother, Richard (Loretta) Stoughton, of Shawano, Wis.; a sister, Donna (John) Hart, of Shawano; a sister-in-law, Mary Stoughton, of Davenport, Iowa; a very special family friend, Marge "Aunt Ma" Mohr, of Dyersville, Iowa; her godmother, Mary Palmer, of Farley; two godchildren, her niece, Sara McGuinnis, of Chicago, her nephew, Michael Stoughton, of Niceville, Fla.; 15 other nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews of who she was very proud to consider part of her family; and countless friends.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Evan; and two nephews, Christopher and James Stoughton.

A Janet L. Auterman Memorial Fund has been established.
