FARLEY, Iowa - Charles A. Anstoetter, 91, of Farley, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at 11:55 p.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade.

Friends and relatives of Charles may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, where a wake service will be held at 3 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Services for Charles will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, with the Rev. Donald T. Anstoetter presiding, and the Rev. Michael Schueller concelebrating. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley.

Charles was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Dyersville, son of Bernard and Lidwina L "Lydia" (Kramer) Anstoetter. He received his education in East Scott School No. 6.

On June 1, 1949, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Schlemme at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fillmore; she preceded him in death on Sept. 24, 1964. On Aug. 17, 1968, he was united in marriage to Violet (Holub) Crowley at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade; she preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 1986. On Sept. 1, 1987, he was united in marriage to Doris R. (Moser) Elliott at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley; she preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 2012.

Charlie started his farming career in 1949 and farmed on the Smith farm for 17 years, until he purchased the home place in 1964. He operated a dairy farm and later a hog operation until retiring in 1981.

Charlie owned several classic cars and displayed them at numerous area car shows, winning a series of trophies. He also enjoyed participating in several activities with his family and friends, such as golfing, bowling, card games, fishing trips, dancing and dining out.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley, the Farley Knights of Columbus-Council 930 and was a former member of Dubuque County Pork Producers.

He is survived by two children, Susan (Bob) Howard, of Peosta, and Garry (Deb) Anstoetter, of Epworth; five grandchildren, Jill Giorno, Kelly Novak, Rebecca Howard, Sara Anstoetter and Brooke Anstoetter; four great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Aubrey, Talia and Marco; five stepchildren, Jan (Steve) Supple, of Cascade, Larry (Helen) Heyer, of Monticello, Dave (Faith) Elliot, of Marysville, Pa., Bev (Bob) Murray, of Omaha, Neb., and Jane (Duane) Hermsen, of Peosta; several nieces and nephews; stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; five siblings, Marian Bell, of Dyersville, Esther (Frances) Joyce, of Rapid City, S.D., Jerry (Monie) Anstoetter, of Farley, John J. (Joan) Anstoetter, of Dubuque, and Mildred Koehler, of Decatur, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Clete) Maiers, of Dubuque, and Janann (Ken) Krapfl, of Monticello.

He is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernard and Donald Anstoetter; two sisters, Sr. Marirose Anstoetter-RSM, and Alice (Eugene) Wieser; two brothers-in-law, Ken Koehler and John Bell; and a stepson, Darrell Crowley.

A Charles A. Anstoetter Memorial Fund has been established.
