Patrick Mohan, aged ninety-four years, died in this city at the Wales Hotel at 2:30 o'clock on Thursday morning after a long life, part of which was spent in this community. Mr. Mohan was born in Ireland and early in life resided in St. Louis.

In the early 40's he came to Dubuque with his wife and children to escape the yellow fever. His wife died of it after coming to Dubuque and later his children died. They are all buried in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

During the years Mr. Mohan has lived in St. Louis and Dubuque, coming back here for the summers and spending the winters in the south. In the early days he amassed considerable of a fortune in boating on the lower Mississippi. He was a familiar figure about Dubuque of recent years, and was a gentleman of culture, held in the highest regard by all with whom he came on contact.

One niece, Mrs. Johnson, whose husband is proprietor of the Ellis Hotel in Waterloo, two nieces in Chicago, and two nephews in Pittsburg, survive him.

Death came to Mr. Mohan practically of old age, although a recent injury he sustained, it is believed, shocked his system to a considerable extent. Sunday he was descending the stairway and his failing eye sight caused him to believe he had reached the last step. There was one step more and the aged man stumbled and fell sustaining a severe shock to his system. Death resulted as stated on Thursday morning.

Arrangements for the funeral have not as yet been completed.
