Manchester Press: After an illness of four weeks, preceded by a gradual failure of health, Mr. Edmund B. Tilton died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Geo. Clemans, in ths city, early Sunday morning, Jan 23, 1911, at the age of nearly 80 years. The funeral of Mr. Tilton was held from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Clemans on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, the sermon by Rev. W.S. Sylvester of Cascade, internment was made in Oakland cemetery.

Mr. Tilson was born in the city of Philadelphia February 17, 1831. He resided in Philadelphia at Manaynnk and Milton, Pennsylvania and Trenton, New Jersey, until 1850, when he came with his parents to Dubuque, removing soon after to Cascade, in which city he was married, August 24, 1855, to Miss Sarah E. Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Tilton celebrated their golden wedding in this city in 1905.

In 1865, Mr. and Mrs. Tilton came to Manchester and engaged in the restaurant business. For several years Mr. Tilton was bookkeeper for Thorpe Bros. And was for a time proprietor of the Globe Hotel. He is survived by his widow and two children—Mrs. H.O. Smith of this city and Mrs. M.W. Sheldon of Seneca, South Dakota. Mr. Tilton was a charter member of the local Legion of Honor, but had no other lodge affiliations.

As a lad of fifteen, Mr. Tilton contracted an illness which left him an obstinate fever sore on one of his legs. Unwise treatment of the difficulty resulted in a permanent lameness which made it necessary for him to resort to a cane or crutch. He was one of the old-time business men of Manchester—friendly in manner, straightforward in his business dealings and of companionable nature. He and his wife lived happily together and his death is a separation of fifty-five years of companionship. Mr. Tilton enjoyed the sincere friendship of many and the confidence and esteem of the community.
