Gertrude M. Arnold

Mrs. Gertrude M. Arnold, age 77, a resident of the Good Neighbor Home and widow of James Arnold, Passed away at the Mercy Medial Center in Dubuque on Wednesday, May 16, at 2:30 p.m. following an illness of three weeks. Mrs. Arnold was born September 20, 1895 in Dubuque County, a daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Hoover Hogan. She received her education in the schools of Dubuque County. She was united in marriage to James Arnold November 24, 1920, at Waterloo Iowa. Following their marriage they farmed in the Earlville and Hopkinton area until 1965 when they retired and moved to Manchester. Mr. Arnold passed away February 18, 1973. Mrs. Arnold was a member of St. Mary's Church. She was also a member of the Rosary Society and the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women. The St. Mary's Parish Wake Service was held at the Shelly Funeral Home Thursday evening at 8:30. Surviving are: a sister Mrs. Cecelia Daly of Farley; and a number of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 5 brothers, 2 sisters. Funeral services were on Friday morning, May 18th, in St. Mary's Church where the funeral mass was celebrated by Father J. Kress at 10. He also gave the homily and read the graveside prayers in St. Mary's Cemetery.
