Services for Joseph B. Manders, 87, of Heritage Manor will be at 9 a.m. Saturday Holy Ghost Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. (rest of paragraph omitted)
Mr. Manders was a self-employed carpenter until he retired in 1962.
He was born June 1, 1900 at St. Catherine's, Iowa, son of Hilarius and Anna (Harlis) Manders. He died Wednesday night, May 25, 1988 at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit. He was educated at St. Catherine's. He married Christina M. Herbst in November 1927 at St. Mary's Church. He was a World War I Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sept. 3, 1956, and a son, Sylvester J., in June 1953.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. James (Arlene) Kohn and Mrs. Patrick (Margery) Steger, both of Dubuque, Mrs. James (Shirley) Theisen of Holy Cross, Iowa, Mrs. Carl (Darlene) Klostermann of Earlville, Mrs. Paul (Luella) Lueken of Garber, Iowa, and Mrs. Thomas (Mary Jane) Burcham of Fletcherr, Okla.; eight sons, LaVern R., Jerome H., Delbert E. and Norman N., all of Dubuque, Vincent I. of East Dubuque, Ill., Lester J. of Gays Mills, Wis., Harold M. of Antioch, Ill., and George J. of Lake City, Fla,; 71 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mary Kuhl of Dubuque; and two brothers, Raymond N. of Dubuque and Herbert of St. Catherine's.
