Robert F. Post

Telegraph Herald - Dec 21, 2003

Robert F. Post, 60, of Hastings, Minn., formerly of Dubuque, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, in Hastings.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Hastings. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, Hastings.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1943, in Dubuque, son of Frank and Rose Post.

He received a bachelor's degree in engineering and philosophy from Loras College, Dubuque, and the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and a master's degree in mechanics and hydraulics from the University of Iowa.

Mr. Post joined the St. Paul District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1967, and held a number of key leadership positions. He served as chief of the engineering division, St. Paul District, for 12 years. During his tenure, he provided leadership and was directly and continuously involved in district projects that won corps-wide awards. During record-breaking flooding, he worked tirelessly as the flood executive officer, directing advance preparations and emergency operations for communities within the district.

Throughout his career, Bob distinguished himself with outstanding skill, confidence and leadership. He received many awards, including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the Army Achievement Medal, the Minnesota Government Engineer of the Year Award and was honored with the Charles W. Britzius Lifetime Achievement Award. Since retiring from the corps five years ago, he worked at Barr Engineering in Edina, Minn.

Bob's greatest quest in life was to care for, love and support his family. His ultimate enjoyment came from sharing everyday interactions with his wife, children and grandchildren. Special times were spent taking trips with his wife to the North Shore, helping his daughter, hunting with his sons and brothers, camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, relaxing at the cabin and enjoying great conversations with his daughters-in-law.

Bob will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew him as a gentle and loving person who had a gift of making everyone feel unique and special.

Surviving are his mother; his cherished and loving wife of 38 years, Diane; two sons, Eric (Katrina) and Scott (Julie); a daughter, Suzanne (Robert); four grandchildren Lucy, Laura, Tedi and John; three brothers Ron, Dennis and Steve; a sister, Linda; and many friends and colleagues.

He was preceded in death by his father.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Minnesota Medical Foundation, 200 Oak St. SE, Minneapolis, Minn. 55455.
