Mrs. Herrig worked at the Battery Plant as a personal housekeeper to the Woodward family. Most recently, she worked as a housekeeper at the University of Dubuque, prior to retiring.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1914, in Bellevue, Iowa, daughter of Theodore and Catherine (Welsch) Hoxmeier. She married Wilfred T. "Jim" Herrig on Nov. 18, 1946, in Plymouth Rock, Iowa.

Florence was a farm girl at heart who held family as the highest value. All of her life was devoted to making the best possible life for her children and grandchildren.

She loved to reminisce about her friends and the dances she attended while growing up in Bellevue.

Florence was humble in her approach to life, and yet she was held in high regard by all who knew her. She was always welcoming, friendly and kind.

Surviving are a son, Jim (Mary Schreiber) Herrig, and a daughter, Dianne (Art) Roche, both of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Marc) Roche Gratama and Andrew M. Roche, both of Chicago, Katherine R. (fiance, Joseph Demarest) Roche, of New York, Adam S. Herrig and Brendan S. Herrig, both of Iowa City, and Collin S. Herrig and Whitney Herrig, both of Dubuque; a brother, Lee (Lucille) Hoxmeier, of Dubuque; three brothers-in-law, William (Joan) Herrig, Edmund (Donna) Herrig and Al Herrig; three sisters-in-law, Lucille McAndrew, Thelma Herrig and Mary Herrig; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Arthur Hoxmeier; and three sisters, Bertha Hoxmeier, Loretta (Ray) Hoxmeier Herrig and Hilda (John) Hoxmeier Ernst.

A Florence K. Herrig Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, aides and other staff members of Stonehill Care Center for the kind attention and personal care they provided to Florence, and to the help given by Hospice of Dubuque and St. Anthony's Catholic Church as Florence's long life came to a close.
