Karen Florence (Buckley) Lloyd

Karen Florence Buckley Lloyd, 64, died quietly at home, Saturday, March 23, 2013, with all her family near. She lost her hard fought battle with cancer; however her spirit stayed strong to the very end. She will be deeply missed by so many who loved her.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 27th at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Rev. Daniel Knepper officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26th at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Karen was born July 21, 1948, in Dubuque, daughter of Homer and Florence (Rohrbach) Buckley. She met Dwight Lloyd Jr. at an Iowa Football game in 1969. They were married at Holy Ghost Church April 29, 1970 and they would have celebrated their forty-third wedding anniversary in April. Karen was, and always will be the love of Dwight’s life.

She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1966.

Karen had a generous, loving heart, and she gave not counting the cost. Her loyalty to her family and friends was unwavering. Her three grandchildren were a special blessing in her life, and they gave her much joy. Her family came first and she loved her home where she was perfectly happy sitting at home watching a basketball game.

Karen had a wicked sense of humor, and always had something fun to add to every situation. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. In return, her family cherished her, and she always had a visitor sitting with her in the kitchen.

Surviving are her husband, Dwight, her daughter, Jennifer (Adam) Schope, of Dubuque; her “boys”, Chris, Doug and Mike Lloyd, of Dubuque; her grandchildren, Dane, Tate and Reid Schope; her sisters, Paula (Art) Roling, Lea Sullivan, of Dubuque, and Mary (Dick) Luedtke, of Houston, Texas; her many nieces and nephews, and her fat cat, Hollywood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother, Elizabeth Buckley, her mother-in-law, Fern Lloyd, her father-in-law, Dwight Lloyd Sr. and her brother-in-law, John Sullivan.

Dwight and family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Ronald Schope and the nursing staff at the Finley Hospital for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers a Karen Lloyd Memorial has been established.
