KEY WEST, Iowa - James J. "Jim" Slattery, 76, of 2763 La Motte Drive, Key West, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Lyle Wilgenbusch officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 5 p.m.

Mr. Slattery farmed for many years in the Otter Creek area. He also worked at Hoof Mfg. in Maquoketa, retiring in 2001. He was currently working part time with the Dubuque Blind Society.

He was born on July 7, 1927, in Otter Creek, son of David and Mamie (Penny) Slattery.

He married Imelda Kenneally on Oct. 18, 1952, in North Garryowen. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October 2002.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where he served as an usher.

He loved watching and cheering for the Chicago Cubs, the Minnesota Vikings and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also enjoyed playing euchre and watching softball games.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Imelda; his children, Bonnie (Paul) Gorrell and Pat Slattery, both of Dubuque, Sharon Slattery, of Coralville, and Dave (Stacy) Slattery, of East Dubuque, Ill.; four grandchildren, Chris (Meggan), AJ, Terra (Tom) and Heather (Dominick); three great-grandchildren, Alec, Averi and Frankie; a brother-in-law, David Hoerner; and a sister-in-law, Zelda Kenneally.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J.P.; an infant brother; and a sister, Lenore Hoerner.
