LAWRENCE DONOVAN, FORMERLY OF GARRY OWEN, DIES FROM STAB WOUNDS IN CHICAGO

Lawrence (Larry) Donovan, 32, World War veteran and former resident of Garry Owen and Dubuque, died in Chicago, Wednesday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m. from wounds received December 8, 1927, when he was stabbed by an employee of a Chicago packing plant, who had been discharged by Mr. Donovan, a foreman at the plant.

Mr. Donovan had been employed as a foreman at the Western Packing Company at Chicago for five years. During his work on December 8th, he discharged one of the men working under him. When he left the plant the man stabbed Mr. Donovan several times. He was taken to St. Lukes hospital, where he died Wednesday.

Mr. Donovan was born in Garry Owen and later lived in Dubuque. He served overseas in the World War and previous to going to Chicago was employed as a foreman in the Corn Belt Packing Company in Dubuque.

He is survived by his wife, Edna (Utiz) Donovan of Chicago, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Donovan, one brother, Augustine, and a sister, Mrs. Francis Mathingly, all of Dubuque. A brother preceded him in death six months ago.
