Derrick J. Haverland, 21, of 10531 Key West Drive, died Friday evening, Oct. 10, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Key West, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Haverland worked at Addoco Pallet Co. in Dubuque.

He was born on July 29, 1982, in Dubuque, son of Paul S. and Kathy J. (Ryan) Haverland.

He attended Central Alternative High School. He loved the river and boating and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and loved his dog, Payton.

Surviving are his parents, Paul and Kathy Haverland, of Dubuque; a sister, Hope Haverland, of Dubuque; his maternal grandparents, Betty Klein and Roger Ryan, both of Dubuque; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Don and Betty Haverland; and his maternal grandfather, Eldon Klein.

In lieu of flowers, a Derrick J. Haverland Memorial Fund has been established.
