Lester J. Peil, age 92, of 2605 ½ Rhomberg Ave., passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center Dubuque. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.

To celebrate Lester's life friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Lester was born on March 17, 1920 in Dubuque, IA, son of George and Josephine (Kress) Peil.

Lester married Florence Bresee on June 7,1941 in Dubuque. She preceded him in death on June 17, 1999. He served in the US Navy as a Seamen 1st Class during World War II. Lester retired from the Dubuque Packing Company after 35 years. In his earlier years he enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling around the countryside. He loved riding by the river daily and watching the ball games on the island. Lester loved playing cribbage with his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their greatest joy was to "skunk" Grandpa Lester.

Robert (Nancy) Peil, Dubuque, IA,
Diane (Jerry) Overturf, Dubuque, IA,
a daughter-in-law, Diane Peil,
10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren,
a sister, Mildred "Sis" Schnee, Dubuque, IA,
several nieces, nephews and friends.

Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, 2 sons, Raymond and William, 2 brothers, George and William "Bud", 4 sisters, Anna Linden and Pearl LePert, Clara Malloy and Caroline "Whitey" Fluor.

In lieu of flowers a Lester J. Peil Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Ennoble Manor and Mercy 3rd floor.
