LaVern J. Koltes

LaVern J. Koltes age 70 of 12617 Circle Ridge Road in Sherrill, died at 9:33 PM Friday July 6, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday July 10 at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Sherrill with Fr. Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque. To celebrate LaVern's life friends may call from 2 to 8 PM on Monday July 9, 2012 and from 8:30 until 10 AM Tuesday July 10, 2012 at The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road Dubuque where there will be a wake service at 1:45 PM.

LaVern was born on November 26, 1941 in Dubuque the son of Leo and Rosina (Nauman) Koltes. He attended Sherrill Catholic School and went to work at The Dubuque Cheese Factory.

On October 9, 1962 he married the love of his life Shirley Maro at Saint Theresa's Catholic Church in LaMotte, Iowa and together they shared almost 50 wonderful years. In 1971 they purchased the family farm where they raised their four children. Farming was very important and he spent most of his day on the farm, milking the cows, planting and harvesting crops, working in the garden or just doing the daily chores. He rarely missed a day.

LaVern also enjoyed some of the simple things of life, cracking walnuts in the winter, watching old classic TV shows and of course a good game of euchre. He and Shirley also loved to travel and dance. They enjoyed their many trips to the Hideaway in Benton for a good night of dancing and visiting with friends. He was an honest trustworthy and hardworking man who will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his laughter and his charm. We all love you Dad and we'll miss you.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Shirley, four children Joyce (Larry) Sabers, Marilyn (Dale) Heitz, Darlene (Len) Schueller and Dennis (Bonnie) Koltes all of Sherrill, ten grandchildren Jessica(Dennis) Kauffmann, Roseann Sabers, Jacob (Sarah Schiesl) Sabers, Kyle Heitz, Stephanie Heitz, Peter Schueller, Dale (Jessica Taggart) Schueller, Stacy(fiance Justin Schmitt) Schueller, Kimberly Koltes, Kevin Koltes and a greatgrandchild due in September, a sister Janann Ambrosy of Sherrill and two brothers Duane "Hap" (Linda) Koltes and Gary (Maryann) Koltes both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law Lelan Ambrosy and his in-law's Lawrence and Dolores (Weber) Maro.

A LaVern Koltes memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the Benton, Wisconsin Fire and EMS service and the Hazel Green Ambulance for all their efforts and concern.
