Alvina T. Hoxmeier

Alvina T. Hoxmeier, 90, of Luther Manor, formerly of 1358 Tomahawk Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Luther Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bellevue, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3:30 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1912, in La Motte, Iowa, daughter of John and Mary (Thielen) Herrig.

She married Arthur Hoxmeier on Nov. 23, 1936, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, La Motte; he preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1993. Together they farmed in the Bellevue area for many years before retiring in 1972.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking.

She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alvina will always be remembered for her gentle and kind spirit.

Surviving are her children, Paul (Norine) Hoxmeier, of Bellevue, Ronald Hoxmeier, of Houston, David Hoxmeier and Thomas (Colleen) Hoxmeier, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Donna (Ron) Rettenmeier and Linda (Dave) McAllister, both of Dubuque, and Diana Kauder, of Cascade, Iowa; three brothers, Albert Herrig, of La Motte, and William (Joan) Herrig and Ed (Donna) Herrig, both of Dubuque; a sister, Lucille McAndrew, of Bernard, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by five brothers, Arthur, Arnold, Julian, Wilfred and Norbert; two sisters, Ermina Koch and Hilda Koch; a son-in-law, Ken Kauder; a daughter-in-law, Danna Hoxmeier; and two great-grandchildren, Faith and Hope Fleege.

An Alvina T. Hoxmeier Memorial Fund has been established.

The Hoxmeier family wishes to thank Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Khatib, Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for the special care they provided to Alvina.
