Perry Pierce – Obituary

The funeral services of Perrin Pierce occurred Friday afternoon at M.E. church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Thos. E. Elwick, Mrs. B. W. Talcott and Miss Marie Jewell sang two selections, Mrs. ?. L Kramer playing the accompaniment on the piano. The children of the second and third grades with their teachers attended the services in a body. The little white casket covered with flowers showed the esteem in which he was held by classmates, teachers, relatives and friends. The pallbearers were four boys from the public school: Marvin Lundt, Vreuard Haufle, Marvin Snyder, and Alvin Feulner. Interment took place in the local cemetery.

Perrin Duane, the oldest son of Harry C. and Gladys E. Pierce was born at Strawberry Point, Iowa, July 31, 1925 and died at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque Wednesday morning, Feb. 1, 1933, after an accident on Monday evening. He attended the Strawberry Point public school, being in the second grade. His teacher bears testimony to the fact he was a bright boy in school; nice to work with and manage in every way and was loved by his schoolmates. Monday afternoon while at school it is said he wrote on the blackboard, “Play safe today and play tomorrow.” Little did they think that only a few short hours would pass “Perry” as he was called would have joined the angelic hosts. ‘Tis but a step we know not how soon, until all will be gathered so that he who now gone before may be set in an unbroken circle around the throne on high. He received the sacrament of baptism at the hospital. He leaves to mourn his sudden loss his parents, two brothers, Robert and Wilmer, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Whitlock of this place and Mrs. P. L. Pierce of Osterdock besides other relatives and a large circle of friends. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the grief stricken parents but how little that consoles them.

(Note: He was hit by a car.)
