NEW VIENNA, Iowa - George J. Hosch, 82, of 7560 Columbus St., New Vienna, died at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Oakcrest Manor, Dyersville, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John J. O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Mr. Hosch was a farmer in the rural New Vienna area until his retirement.

He was born on July 25, 1921, in Cascade, son of Peter and Katherine Ann (Kurt) Hosch. He married Lois White on April 27, 1949, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington.

He was a member of St. Boniface Parish in New Vienna, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He also served as a former board member and trustee for the parish. He was a former member of the Cattlemen's Association and a former director for the New Vienna Savings Bank.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Hosch, of New Vienna; three children, Joyce (Peter) Huettl, of Oregon, Wis., and Earl (Joan) Hosch and Gene (Sara) Hosch, both of New Vienna; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas Huettl, Paul Huettl, Philip Huettl, Karla Hosch, Sara Hosch, Lisa Hosch, Brett Hosch, Tina Hosch, Abby Hosch and Jared Hosch; two brothers, Harold Hosch and Edwin (Millie) Hosch, both of Cascade; three sisters, Margaret (Don) Koopman, of Epworth, Rosie Koopmann, of Delhi, and Katherine (Larry) Knipper, of Dyersville; a brother-in-law, LeRoy (Rosene) Trumm, of Cascade; and a sister-in-law, Julie Hosch, of Cascade.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Paula Hosch; a sister, Mary Trumm; a brother, John P. Hosch; and a brother-in-law, John Koopmann.

Memorials may be given to Beckman High School and to the Hennessey Catholic School in New Vienna.
