Mrs. Donald G. (Barbara Jean) Wernke, 54, of 2217 Queen St., formerly of 2477 Jackson St., died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday.

She was born on May 14, 1949, in Bernard, Iowa, daughter of Raymond and Marie J. (Haverland) Johnson. She married Donald G. Wernke on May 6, 1972, in Asbury, Iowa.

Barb was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.

She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a full-time homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Donald G. Wernke; two daughters, Jennifer L. Wernke (Roger Bartell), of Galena, Ill., and Brenda L. (Dennis) Brehm, of Dubuque; a son, Jason J. Wernke (Melissa Pope), of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Cody, Jesse and Richard, Dawson and Braiden and Hailey and Jaxon; and two sisters, Pat (Byrne) Wilberding, of Cuba City, Wis., and Rose DeLong, of Duxbury, Mass.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Raymond Johnson, Jr.
