Violet M. Kelly, 75, of 1879 Bennett St., died at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Kelly was a cafeteria cook at Dubuque Senior High School and at Washington Junior High School for 20 years, retiring in 1993.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1928, in Muscatine, Iowa, daughter of Albert C. and Margaret S. (Batchelor) Freyermuth. She married Leo E. Kelly on May 1, 1946, in Bellevue, Iowa; he passed away in September 1996.

She had resided in Dubuque since the 1950's.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading. Listening to country music, especially Alan Jackson, was also one on her favorite past times.

Violet was a kind and generous woman who will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.

Surviving are her children, Keith (Judy) Kelly, of Dubuque, and their children, Jennifer and Shawn; Daniel (Kathi) Kelly, of Dubuque, and their children, Jason and Nicole; Kathy Kelly, of Dubuque; Deanna (Joe) Breson, of Dubuque, and their children, Paul and Jeremy; Michel (Kristi) Kelly, of Dubuque, and their children, Tim, Craig, Jackie and Tori; Pat (Linda) Kelly, of Platteville, Wis., and their children, Mikki, Cory and Robert; and Michelle (Brian) Podolsky, of Dubuque, and their children, Michael and Jessica; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma Mangler, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alberta Smith.

A Violet M. Kelly Memorial Fund has been established.

Violet's family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Drs. John Whalen and Ronald Schope.
